The Snake Island Institute recently delivered a lecture at the United States Naval Academy, engaging a room full of Midshipmen and military instructors with real-world insights from Ukraine’s naval fight.
As the presentation began, the atmosphere in the hall shifted — what unfolded was not a story of history, but of resilience, adaptation, and innovation in modern warfare. Through vivid recounting of naval operations and battlefield decision-making, the Snake Island Institute team shared lessons drawn directly from Ukraine’s experience in defending freedom at sea against overwhelming odds.
For the future naval officers in attendance, these stories carried more than strategic lessons. They underscored the importance of initiative, leadership, and technological adaptation — values that will define the next generation of naval warfare.
We are grateful to the U.S. Naval Academy for hosting this dialogue and for the openness of its faculty and students to learn from Ukraine’s experience.
At Snake Island Institute, we believe that every exchange — from the battlefield to the classroom — strengthens our collective understanding of how to defend freedom.
