Technology becomes a shield for soldiers — but only when it is developed hand in hand with those on the frontline.
On August 29 in Lviv, Snake Island Institute, together with AB3 TECH, Strike UGV Company NC13 of the 3rd Assault Brigade, and the Ukrainian Council of Defence Industry (Рада Зброярів), conducted the Forum of Strike UGVs, bringing together commanders of UGV units and more than 20 Ukrainian manufacturers.
For the first time, engineers and soldiers met in one space not only to present technologies but to exchange direct, practical feedback.
The program featured a panel discussion with UGV unit commanders, company pitches, and an expo area where manufacturers showcased their latest robotic systems and innovations.
Soldiers emphasized what truly matters on the battlefield:
▪️ rapid feedback loops for product improvements;
▪️ simplified fire control systems;
▪️ integrated anti-drone turrets;
▪️ reliable logistics and evacuation support;
▪️ and more strike UGVs with heavier payloads.
Manufacturers listened — and new channels of cooperation were opened. The forum helped close the gap between battlefield needs and production lines, ensuring every new UGV is refined by combat experience, not theory.
As Makar, commander of the strike UGV unit of the 3rd Assault Brigade, noted:
“The panel discussion was a reality check for most manufacturers, who do not fully understand why they are creating UGVs. Producers must work directly with the frontline, listen to the military, and adapt to the criteria dictated by war itself.”
The Forum became a space where expectations, requirements, and real combat lessons met — setting the foundation for the next generation of Ukrainian UGVs in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
At Snake Island Institute, we will continue building this bridge — ensuring that innovation follows combat reality, and that every technological advance helps save lives and enhance operational effectiveness.
